Before Beaufort became a destination for tourists, it was a land of fields, packing sheds, and early-morning harvests. For nearly a century, truck farming sent fresh tomatoes and vegetables from Seabrook and the Sea Islands to dinner tables in cities from D.C. to Boston. It was hard work, but it fed families here at home and far beyond — shaping the community long before tourism took root.
